According to Sky Sports, Mat Ryan is expected to leave Brighton and Hove Albion this summer no matter whether Arsenal make a move for him or not.

It’s claimed that Arsenal are keen on signing Ryan permanently having taken him on loan from Brighton during the January transfer window.

Some had wondered whether Brighton would keep Ryan, but with his contract up next summer, he is now expected to go, even if it isn’t Arsenal.

How did Ryan fare at Arsenal?

Ryan only started three Premier League games, but he showed that he was a reliable backup for Bernd Leno whenever given the chance.

Runar Runarsson couldn’t do that job, but 29-year-old Ryan came in and did exactly what Mikel Arteta wanted whilst being called a ‘beast’ in training by the Arsenal boss.

It’s therefore unsurprising that Arsenal want Ryan permanently, but it’s claimed that Ryan wants to be a first-choice goalkeeper with his next club – something that the Gunners may not be able to promise him.

Ryan will allegedly weigh up his options and take his time to pick his next move, meaning any club interested in him will have to be patient.

Could Ryan end up at Celtic?

The report notes that Celtic are interested in signing Ryan, having appointed his former Australia boss Ange Postecoglou just a matter of days ago.

No talks have been held yet, but Ryan could find Celtic appealing with his former manager in charge there. Add in that Celtic don’t have a settled first-choice goalkeeper, and a move to Parkhead could be ideal for Ryan – if they can pay up to get him.
