Arsenal could be after a new goalkeeper this summer.
Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla has claimed on his official website that Arsenal have tabled a bid worth £17.6million for Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno.
The report claims that 26-year-old Leno, who missed out on Germany’s World Cup squad to Manuel Neuer, Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Kevin Trapp, is also interesting Italian giants Napoli.
It is believed that Leverkusen are willing to accept less than Leno’s £24.6million release clause, but want around £19.4million plus bonuses for the six-time Germany international.
Leno showed his class for Leverkusen during 2017-18, keeping 12 clean sheets in 38 league and cup appearances – conceding 49 goals with a defence in front of him capable of making a mistake.
New Arsenal boss Unai Emery could be in the market for a new goalkeeper with doubts over current number one Petr Cech, who at 36 years of age showed signs that he was beginning to deteriorate during the campaign.
Leno only has two years remaining on his Leverkusen contract, but if Arsenal are to land the German, they must move quickly and improve their bid before Napoli come calling.
