Arsenal are still keen to sign Amadou Diawara from Roma after the Serie A midfielder’s agent previously confirmed interest from the Premier League giants, speaking to Forza Roma.

The Giallorossi paid big money to sign one of Europe’s most promising defensive midfielders from Napoli last year – but maybe he would have been better off staying in the South rather than heading off to the capital.

Roma coach Paulo Fonseca is yet to really put his faith in Diawara, after all, handing the 23-year-old just 20 league starts in almost a year-and-a-half.

Just one of those has come in 2020/21, with Jordan Veretout, Lorenzo Pellegrini and breakthrough star Gonzalo Villar all moving ahead of the Guinea international in the Stadio Olimpico pecking order.

Diawara insists that he is ‘happy’ and willing to fight for his place at Roma.

But, according to Forza Roma, the Scudetto dark horses would be willing to sell a £20 million benchwarmer if the opportunity arrives next month.

“He is liked by many clubs in England, including Arsenal,” Diawara’s agent, Daniele Piraino, told Tuttomercatoweb in August.

“Being linked with certain clubs is pleasing for him, as these are prestigious sides.”

If Calciomercato are to be believed, Diawara is also on the radar of both West Ham United and Leicester City with offers of £18 million rumoured to be forthcoming from the London Stadium and the King Power.

At Arsenal, renewed speculation surrounding the Roma benchwarmer will raise further doubts about the future of Inter-linked Granit Xhaka at the Emirates.
