According to Globo Esporte, Arsenal have contacted the representatives of Fluminense talent Matheus Martinelli ahead of a possible move.
It’s claimed that Manchester United are scouting Martinelli, but it’s Arsenal who have advanced with preliminary contact over a possible move.
Arsenal have been gathering information, such as when Martinelli’s contract ends and how much his release clause is worth, but no bid has been made.
Martinelli’s deal ends in December 2024, and the release clause stands at €40million – around £34million, but Arsenal would likely want to negotiate that price down.
The 19-year-old has played 16 first-team games for Fluminense, scoring three goals and notching one assist in a promising start to his career.
Fluminense have sent Richarlison and Joao Pedro to English football in recent times, with Kayky heading to Manchester City – and Martinelli could follow suit.

Arsenal’s technical director Edu will know plenty about the Brazilian market, having previously brought Gabriel Martinelli to the club.
Namesake Matheus could end up in North London too, but Edu may have to move quickly with United also keen on the youngster.
