Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney is at the top of Brendan Rodgers wishlist as Ben Chilwell closes in on a big-money move to Chelsea, according to a report.
90Min have claimed that Leicester have a number of options lined up to replace Chilwell, with Rodgers seemingly hoping to reunite with Arsenal’s left-back.
Chilwell is expected to make a £50 million move from the King Power Stadium to Stamford Bridge, which would leave a big hole on the left-hand side for Rodgers.
The Northern Irishman worked with Tierney during his time at Celtic, so he is well aware of what the Scotsman is capable of producing on his day.
Whilst Tierney’s career at the Emirates Stadium got off to a slow start because of injury, he was immense for Mikel Arteta during the latter stages of the season, including helping him win the FA Cup.
If Chilwell is going for a rumoured fee of £50 million then it would clearly take a lot more to prize Tierney away from his current home.
Arsenal’s record transfer deals
- Nicolas Pepe
£72 million
- Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
£56 million
- Alexandre Lacazette
£52 million
- Thomas Partey
45 million
- Mesut Ozil
£42 million
Plus, Arsenal have just won the FA Cup, and just like the Foxes, they are in the Europa League, so the only thing the Midlands side could do to lure Tierney away from North London is big money.
Tierney is now a regular at Arsenal, he has won his first trophy in England, he is a key part of Arteta’s plans and is playing for the bigger club.
Whilst Rodgers needs to replace Chilwell ahead of his seemingly imminent departure, it seems that he may have to look elsewhere because luring his former player away from Arteta’s grasps will prove to be a very daunting task.
