A report in the Daily Mirror has suggested that Arsenal sent scouts to Molineux on Saturday to run their eye over Wolves star Helder Costa.

The 23-year-old is Wolves’ club record signing, having signed for £13 million last summer, but the Mirror suggests that his agent could be hopeful of securing a £20 million switch to the Premier League at the end of this season.

And it appears that the Gunners are open to the idea of signing him after having representatives at Paul Lambert’s side’s game with Rotherham on Saturday.

Whether they would still be keen on signing him remains to be seen, but it is fair to say that he did little to enhance his chances of getting a top flight move against the Millers as he missed a penalty in a game that Wolves narrowly won to ease their relegation fears.

Despite failing to shine against Rotherham, Costa has certainly been a standout performer for Wolves over the course of the season, scoring eight and contributing six assists in the Championship.

However, disgruntled Arsenal supporters may not be too delighted about news of their interest in the Portuguese. Though he is talented, his arrival would represent what has infuriated fans about the club’s dealings in the transfer market.

Too often in recent years, Arsenal have arguably tended to sign attacking midfielders rather than address the other issues in the squad, and moving for Costa would just mean that they have spent £20 million – if that is the figure he ends up going for should he move – on strengthening an area where they already boast considerable depth.
