According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal sent a scout to watch Roma vs Porto to track centre back Kostas Manolas.
The Gunners are in the hunt for a central defender before the end of the transfer window after losing Per Mertesacker and Gabriel Paulista to injury in pre-season.
Valencia defender Shkodran Mustafi looked likely to be the man they would sign, but a move for the Germany international looks unlikely.

Instead it appears they are looking at other potential signings and one Serie A centre back in particular.
That man is Kostas Manolas, who the Daily Mail report they had scouted on Tuesday evening as his side took on Porto in the Champions League.
The newspaper reports that the Greek international has been on their radar for two years and they have no revived that interest this summer.

However, it remains to be seen whether they make a move for his signature before the end of the transfer window.
Roma are not likely to be keen on losing one of their star men and will demand a big fee, which the Gunners are unlikely to be willing to pay given their hesitancy to spend already this summer.
