Arsenal have identified Basel ace Eray Comert as a potential bargain addition to Mikel Arteta’s backline, with Fanatik suggesting that a deal can be agreed for as little as £2 million this summer.
If the biggest club in Switzerland were hoping to sell their latest rising star for a big fee during the off-season, the ongoing global health crisis might have given those plans a good kicking.
Clubs all over the continent, regardless of their size and stature, may now be forced to sell their key players on the cheap and, given that the Swiss Super League is hardly one of the most moneyed environments in European football, Basel are unlikely to find themselves immune from an unprecedented situation.
Fanatik claims that the team who gave us Ivan Rakitic, Mo Salah and Xherdan Shaqiri could be tempted to accept just £2 million for Comert; a talented, ball-playing centre-half who looks tailor made for Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.

The Mail reported 11 months ago that the Gunners had met up with Comert’s representatives in Switzerland to discuss a move to the Emirates. And while nothing was agreed back then, this feels like the perfect time for Arsenal to revisit a deal.
It is no secret that Arteta wants a promising, technically gifted central defender to partner William Saliba in North London and 22-year-old Comert ticks a lot of boxes.
Not least because, at £2 million, he would cost a fraction of the fee required for not only Dayot Upamaecano and Jonathan Tah but also the likes of Axel Disasi.
