According to The Sun, Arsenal are interested in signing Matthijs de Ligt from Ajax in the summer of 2019.

It has been reported that De Ligt is a huge admirer of Arsenal, and that Ajax value the 19-year-old central defender at £70 million.

The British tabloid has also credited Manchester City, Liverpool and Juventus with interest in the Netherlands international.

Tottenham Hotspur speculation

Interestingly, Arsenal’s bitter North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur were linked with a move for the talented and promising teenage central defender in the summer of 2018.

The London Evening Standard reported in May 2018 that Tottenham were looking at de Ligt as a potential replacement for Toby Alderweireld.

United were reportedly looking at signing Belgium international central defender Alderweireld in the summer of 2018.

Promising talent

De Ligt is one of the best young defenders in Europe, and the Dutchman can only get better in the coming years.

While the 19-year-old will be a brilliant signing for Arsenal, it remains to be seen if the Gunners are able to cough up the £70m that Ajax reportedly want for the central defender.
