Arsenal are interested in signing £18 million-rated Porto midfielder Danilo Pereira this summer with ESPN reporting that the 2016 European champion has been watched by the Gunners since the Arsene Wenger days.
It’s been a while since this 28-year-old enforcer was linked with a move to the Premier League.
But with The Gunners under pressure to rebuild Mikel Arteta’s ailing squad on a limited budget, it seems that the London giants are about to go back in for a player they were linked heavily with all the way back in 2017.
Arsenal sent scouts to watch Danilo in action three years ago, shortly after his all-action, ball-winning ferocity helped Portugal stun France at their very own European Championships (Sun).
And, given that the 37-cap international, is set to be sold for a around a third of his £55 million release clause this summer, it is no real surprise that the Gunners could be about to come calling once again.
Danilo might not be a bonafide game-changing talent a la Thomas Partey but he would cost far, far less than the Atletico Madrid powerhouse.
But while Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool was more than happy to wait for his top talents, overlooking a whole host of alternative options when deals for Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk looked set to collapse, Arsenal are not exactly in a position to be so picky.
Danilo earns almost £50k-a-week at Porto – one seventh of the wages Arsenal pay to Mesut Ozil.
