Should Arsenal hand Jack Wilshere a new contract?
Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere
Arsenal are reluctant to offer Jack Wilshere a new contract, according to The Daily Star.
Wilshere has been on the books of Arsenal his entire professional club football career so far and has a contract with the Gunners until June 2018, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk.
It has been reported that the North London outfit have yet to offer the midfielder a new deal, and that no club has made an enquiry to sign him in the summer transfer window.
Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere looks dejected
“A lucrative move to China remains a possibility, with Wilshere looking for around £250,000-a-week, but until he proves his fitness and starts playing regularly again any transfer looks extremely unlikely,” adds the report in The Daily Star.
“Wilshere, who has been capped 34 times by England, would ideally like to stay at Arsenal, but would expect a significant increase in his wages of around £90,000-a-week.
“The north Londoners could be reluctant to pay that amount, leading to the possibility Wilshere could run his contract down and leave on a free next year.”
The 25-year-old’s issues with fitness has been a main reason behind his lack of progress in recent years.
One can understand why Arsenal are (reportedly) reluctant to hand the midfielder a new deal.
Wilshere spent the 2016-17 season on loan at Bournemouth, providing two assists in 27 Premier League appearances.
Arsenal failed to finish in the top four of the Premier League last season and will feature in the Europa League during the 2017-18 campaign.
