Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Fiorentina are still intent on keeping Lucas Torreira permanently and have sent an offer to Arsenal – but for half his previously agreed fee, in the region of £6million and £7million.

Torreira, 26, was a regular for La Viola last season. He played 35 times in all competitions and even got his name on the score sheet five times for the Serie A club. There was a previously agreed £12.75m permanent clause in the loan.

But talks, at one stage in recent weeks, hit an impasse – according to reports. Juventus are also said to have shown interest in the Uruguay international. Now, another twist. Fiorentina have made Arsenal an offer.

However, it is hardly to Arsenal’s liking. The offer, as reported by Di Marzio, is half of what the two parties originally agreed – between £6m and £7m. Torreira is about to enter the final 12 months of his Arsenal contract.

Fiorentina offer half of previously agreed Torreira fee

It is a poor offer. Torreira is worth far more than £7million. But Arsenal – and Fiorentina – know that the London club’s hands are tied. They have to sell him this summer to get some cash in for his services.

They also know that Torreira does not want to return to The Emirates. But accepting the aforementioned offer would see Arsenal record a loss of £20million, or slightly less, on a player they only bought in the summer of 2018.

Arsenal have some thinking to do. There is interest from other sides, but Fiorentina are clearly the club showing the most intent. Perhaps a compromise in the region of £10million would see both clubs accept a deal.
