Italian outlet CMW claim Arsenal are preparing a straight-swap bid to sign Juventus midfielder Manuel Locatelli – in a move that would see Albert Sambi Lokonga move the other way. Both players are valued in the region of £26million.
Arsenal’s interest in Locatelli is nothing new. Earlier this month, CMW reported that Arsenal were rivalling Brighton to land the Italy international – who has fallen down the pecking order at Juventus. Brighton certainly stand a chance.
Indeed, new Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi worked with Locatelli at Sassuolo before his move to Juventus. Since then, CMW have continued to track the interest in Locatelli. They say Newcastle were about to make a bid for the midfielder.
Over the weekend, it was even claimed that Manchester United saw an offer rejected shortly before the summer deadline – as per CalcioMercato. Now, Arsenal are planning a swap bid and it involves the struggling Lokonga.
Firstly, Locatelli has fallen down the pecking order – while Lokonga has failed to ever climb it. He sits behind Thomas Partey, Granit Xhaka and Martin Odegaard. Even Mo Elneny. He needs a move, and Juventus could be tempted.

The report states that Max Allegri does not see Locatelli as a major part of his plans. He is willing to see the back of him. That is despite his Euro 2020 form, and joining Juventus on a two-year loan – with an obligation to buy.
It means that if Arsenal are to strike a deal, they will have to wait for Juventus to sanction Locatelli’s permanent move first. That loan is until the end of the season. The report states a straight swap for Lokonga could be considered.
With both players said to be valued in the region of £26million, Juventus could accept a simple, straight swap. Lokonga is younger, while Locatelli is more established – especially, with 24 Italy caps. It does make some sense.
