Arsenal will offer Willian the three-year contract he is desperate for as the Chelsea star approaches free agency this summer, according to BleacherReport.

With Mikel Arteta, Edu Gaspar and co facing the almost impossible task of returning the Gunners to the elite on a shoestring budget, the imminent availability of a genuinely world-class Premier League talent feels like an opportunity which cannot be missed.

After all, it is not every day a player of Willian’s quality can be snapped up for absolutely nothing.

And if Chelsea are unwilling to hand the Brazil international a lengthy contract with his current deal due to expire at the end of this season, Arsenal may be about to step in and meet Willian’s demands.

With money in short supply at the Emirates, however, it remains to be seen whether handing an already 31-year-old attacker a contract until 2023 makes much sense from a business point of view.

Willian, who earns £120,000-a-week at Stamford Bridge, will be 34 by the time he leaves Arsenal, hypothetically speaking.

But, from a sporting perspective, there is little doubt that the former Shakhtar Donetsk star would represent a superb addition to an Arsenal side lacking cutting edge and creativity in the final third.

Willian has produced 13 goals and assists during the current Premier League season. And, as Tottenham found out in December, the veteran wideman is still more than capable of winning games all on his own at this level.

Speaking to Des Impedidos, Willian admitted that he loves living in London and would prefer not to uproot his young family.

So you’d think that a move to Arsenal would be very difficult to turn down.
