The Arsenal manager has been linked with the England job after Roy Hodgson’s departure.
According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal are planning a new contract for Arsene Wenger to ward off interest from England.
The Three Lions will begin the search for their next manager in the coming weeks after Roy Hodgson’s resignation.
He opted to leave his job following England’s humiliating Euro 2016 exit at the hands of minnows Iceland. The list of potential candidates is likely to be a long one, with the England job still an attractive one to many.
One name that has already emerged on the bookmakers ‘shortlists is Arsenal manager Wenger, whose contract at the Emirates expires next summer.
However, Arsenal are not willing to lose their man to the national team and will offer him a new deal to fend off their interest according to the Daily Mail.
Much will rest on how well the Gunners do next season, but should they enjoy success then owner Stan Kroenke is willing to sanction a new deal and Wenger is likely to sign it.
Of course, another disappointing year could change that dramatically and perhaps the FA will bide their time to see if the long serving manager becomes available in due course.
