Arsenal have seemingly stepped up their attempts to sign Cody Gakpo.
The 22-year-old is being heavily linked with a transfer to Arsenal from PSV Eindhoven this summer.
Voetbal International reported in March that the Gunners were in pole position to sign the attacker.
And now The Daily Mail has claimed that the North Londoners have opened talks with the player about coming to the Emirates Stadium.
The Mail adds that Gakpo could cost as much as £40 million, having scored 18 goals and set up another 15 for the Dutch outfit this season.
Stunning
This is the sort of transfer that can and should excite Arsenal supporters.
Some cynical fans might point to the fact that he’s only proven in Dutch football at the moment.
But that was the case with Luis Suarez among many other players once upon a time.
And the truth is that 33 goal involvements in 42 outings across all competitions this season is a stunning return for a wide player and that’s precisely what the Gunners need.
Yes, they scored four goals at Chelsea in midweek, but for the most part Arsenal struggle in a massive way when it comes to attack.
Earlier this month, they were 16th in the ‘big chances created’ table, highlighting their creativity problems.
But Gakpo, according to his numbers, could not only provide chances for Arsenal, but finish them and he’s exactly the type of all-rounder that’ll do damage for Mikel Arteta’s side.
