Mathieu Debuchy has no future at Arsenal but could be offered a Premier League lifeline by Brighton and Hove Albion.
Brighton and Hove Albion have not had to wait long before tucking into the Premier League’s money pie.
The Seagulls have shattered their transfer record on three separate occasions this summer, deals for Valencia goalkeeper Matt Ryan and PSV playmaker Davy Propper eventually eclipsed by the £13.5 million signing of Club Brugge speedster Jose Izquierdo, per Sky Sports.
And though Mathieu Debuchy would cost far less, the fact that Brighton could genuinely make a move for the Arsenal right-back once again proves that the Premier League’s smaller clubs are more powerful than ever before in the transfer market.
The Mirror report that Arsenal will let Debuchy leave the club for free after falling out of favour under Arsene Wenger and have offered the 32-year-old to newly-promoted Brighton, who are looking to strengthen their squad after failing to win any of their opening three fixtures.
Debuchy hasn’t featured in an Arsenal shirt since November of last year due to a relentless series of injuries and the emergence of Hector Bellerin and even Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in Wenger’s revamped wing-back system.
Yet, the Frenchman is still a player with considerable pedigree, having cost Arsenal £12 million when he moved from Newcastle United just three years ago, as reported by The Telegraph. He also has 27 caps for his country, impressing in particular when bursting onto the scene at Euro 2012.
And Debuchy would surely provide some much needed competition for 36-year-old skipper Bruno Saltor at right-back while offering Brighton an extra dash of Premier League experience.
