Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal have been linked with Chelsea forward Kai Havertz.

The Telegraph are reporting this afternoon that Arsenal and Real Madrid are interested in signing Kai Havertz from Chelsea in the summer transfer window.

The report has claimed that “Havertz has attracted interest from Real Madrid”, adding that Arsenal are “monitoring developments” regarding the future of the £150,000-a-week (SalarySport) player, who can operate as an attacking midfielder or as a forward.

Chelsea are willing to sell the 23-year-old forward, but the former Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners are looking for £70 million in transfer fees for the Germany international, according to the report.

Arsenal do not need Chelsea forward Kai Havertz

In our view, Arsenal do not need to sign Kai Havertz from Chelsea in the summer transfer window.

Yes, Havertz is a very good attacking player who is still only 23, but he is not someone that Arsenal are actually in need of.

The Gunners do have enough players who are versatile and can operate out wide or down the middle.

What Arsenal need is a prolific goalscorer to compete with and perhaps even play with Gabriel Jesus upfront, and Havertz is not a ‘natural’ striker.

Yes, the German has played down the middle, but he is not at the level (yet) to make a huge impact for Arsenal if he is played in that role.

Havertz made 30 starts and five substitute appearances in the Premier League for Chelsea this season.

The attacker scored seven goals and gave one assist in those games.

For £70 million, Arsenal would be better of signing an out-and-out striker, someone like Juventus star Dusan Vlahovic, for example.
