According to Foot Mercato, Arsenal are interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain defender Colin Dagba, who Celtic wanted in 2019.

What’s the story?

Well, Arsenal are said to be monitoring the 23-year-old’s situation at the Parc des Princes, as he struggles for game time under Mauricio Pochettino.

So far this season, Dagba has played just 97 minutes of football in Ligue 1 across two appearances.

As a result, Saint-Etienne want to sign the right-back on loan, although they face competition from the Gunners and Borussia Dortmund.

Foot Mercato believe Arsenal will continue to keep tabs on Dagba, who Celtic tried to sign back in 2019 according to RMC Sport.

Real Betis, Borussia Mönchengladbach and Fiorentina are also said to be interested in the PSG No.17.

In our view, this could suggest that Mikel Arteta is keen to upgrade his right-back depth behind Takehiro Tomiyasu.

Who is Arsenal target Colin Dagba?

Interestingly, it was Thomas Tuchel who handed Dagba his first-team debut at Paris Saint-Germain, which came in a 3-0 win over SM Caen on August 12th 2018.

Tuchel also handed the Frenchman his Champions League debut, entrusting the youngster to face Manchester United back in February 12th 2019 at the age of 20.

PSG won 2-0 on that occasion.

Clearly, the Chelsea boss saw something special in Dagba, which should offer encouragement to Arsenal fans who know little about him.

Another thing which should offer encouragement to the Emirates Stadium faithful is Arteta’s eye for a player, as well as his ability to coach youngsters.

The Spaniard’s work with prospects like Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith Rowe and Gabriel Martinelli has been exceptional.

If he can have the same impact on Dagba, the Gunners could soon be blessed with another gem.
