Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are reportedly keen on signing Xavi Simons, a player who has been claimed to be better than Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo.

According to Voetbal International, Arsenal are interested in signing Xavi Simons from PSV in the summer transfer window.

The report in the Dutch media outlet has claimed that Arsenal are now “the most concrete” club in the market for the 20-year-old playmaker.

Voetal International have claimed that Paris Saint-Germain have a buy-back clause of €12 million (£10.32 million) for Simons.

Considered by PSV legend Willy Van der Kerkhof as a player who “might be better than Gakpo”, Simons moved to PSV from PSG in the summer of 2022.

That PSG sold the youngster last summer suggests that they do not consider him as someone who is ready to make a major impact in their first team or someone who could become a star for them.

PSV are very likely to sell the youngster if they get a decent transfer fee, and it is an opening for Arsenal.

The Netherlands international made 34 appearances in the Eredivisie for PSV this season.

Simons scored 19 goals and gave eight assists in those games.

The 20-year-old, who can operate as a centre-forward, out wide or in attacking midfield, scored one goal and gave one assist in seven UEFA Europa League matches for PSV this season.
