Arsenal are interested in signing Wolfsburg star Ridle Baku as they strongly consider adding another right back this summer.

That’s according to transfer insider Dean Jones, who has been speaking to Give Me Sport about Baku’s future.

Jones claims that Baku is one of the names Arsenal are considering as they weigh up signing a right back.

Ben White has shifted into that role this season but Takehiro Tomiyasu has endured a frustrating season.

Adding a natural right back appears to be a focus for Arsenal given their January interest in Ivan Fresneda.

Baku is now another name on the radar, alongside fellow Bundesliga star Jeremie Frimpong.

Whether Arsenal actually move for Baku or not remains to be seen but he is one name on Edu’s wish list.

Who is Arsenal target Ridle Baku?

Baku, 24, was born in Mainz and is of Congolese descent.

‘Ridle’ wasn’t actually part of his birth name but a nickname given to him by his father, who was a big of the former Liverpool striker Karl-Heinz Riedle.

Baku has since legally changed his name to include Ridle, and he could end up following in the footsteps of Riedle by heading to England.

After 54 first-team appearances for Mainz, Baku moved on to Bundesliga rivals Wolfsburg in 2020.

Now with more than 100 Wolfsburg appearances to his name, Baku has become a Bundesliga regular.

Whilst mostly playing as a right back these days, Baku did start out as a central midfielder.

That may just lend itself to play in the inverted full back role that Mikel Arteta has utilised with Oleksandr Zinchenko.

Baku has shown himself to be impressive going forward but his defending has been questioned by Wolfsburg boss Niko Kovac.

The official Bundesliga website describes Baku as one of the strongest runners in the league, highlighting that he ranks second for total sprints in the Bundesliga this season.

That is hugely impressive and may well provide the intensity Arteta is seeking in his Arsenal signings.
