According to Corriere dello Sport, Arsenal and Wolves are currently in negotiations over a deal for Ruben Neves.

What’s the story?

Well, this is big news coming from the Premier League.

Arsenal tried to sign the 26-cap Portugal international back in July, as Edu held talks with Jorge Mendes over a deal (The Sun).

Ultimately, the Gunners were unsuccessful in their pursuit of the 24-year-old, who remained at Wolves.

Now, Corriere dello Sport believe talks between the two Premier League sides have resumed, with Roma sniffing around Granit Xhaka once again.

Interestingly, the Italian news outlet state that Mikel Arteta does not have the best relationship with Xhaka, and wants to replace him with Neves.

So far this season, the man who cost Wolves £15.8m has shone under Bruno Lage, making 17 starts in the Premier League.

Wolves would be crazy to sell Ruben Neves to Arsenal

In our view, this would be a stunning signing by the Gunners.

Neves is an incredible technician, who has the skills to thrive in Arteta’s possession-based system.

In terms of a comparison, he would be Arteta’s answer to Rodri, who helps Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City dictate the play.

Having said that, we think Wolves would be crazy to sell Neves to the north Londoners.

As things stand, Arsenal are just two points ahead of Wolves in the Premier League, with both sides in contention for a place in Europe next season.

In that respect, why would Wolves strengthen a rival with just days remaining of the transfer window?

It would be fine work by Edu if he can somehow get this deal done, although at this stage of the window, we can’t see it happening.
