Arsenal now reportedly have a chance to sign Ivan Rakitic, just two months after it was claimed that Tottenham Hotspur were leading the race to sign him.

Foot Mercato claim that Barcelona are willing to offer Rakitic to Arsenal in a bid to sign Matteo Guendouzi from them.

The reports come just two months after Mundo Deportivo said that Tottenham were winning the battle to sign the Croatian this summer.

Whether Arsenal will accept Barcelona’s swap proposal for Guendouzi still remains to be seen, but the potential deal does complicate matters for Spurs, if they are targeting the central midfielder.

Good signing?

Rakitic has been an infrequent starter for Barca this season, but he could potentially improve Tottenham or Arsenal’s midfield options.

The North London duo have both shown signs of weakness in the position, and are seemingly chasing midfielders this summer.

Arsenal and Spurs actually appear to want defensive minded midfielders, which isn’t Rakitic’s major strength.

However, the 32-year-old’s ability in possession and experience could still prove valuable, with Barca seemingly open to allowing him to leave.
