Arsenal will have to make a ‘huge offer’ to have any chance of signing Philippe Coutinho, Marca report.
Arsenal have been linked with Coutinho throughout the summer so far, but Barcelona’s appointment of Ronald Koeman seems to have complicated matters.
Koeman appears to want to keep Coutinho around, and Arsenal no longer have any hope of landing the Brazilian on loan.
A temporary move for Coutinho may, realistically, have been Mikel Arteta’s side’s only hope of getting hold of the playmaker.
Arsenal are operating on a limited budget, and buying Coutinho alongside a central midfielder would surely be impossible.
The Gunners would surely have been open to taking Coutinho on loan for a year, given his obvious quality, but signing him permanently looks far riskier.

Coutinho, despite being described as ‘world class’ by Arjen Robben (Bleacher Report), has not played his best football for over two years now, and investing a huge sum into a 28-year-old with little re-sale value may not be a wise move for a side who don’t have masses of cash to spend.
The latest report, therefore, surely ends Arsenal’s hopes of landing Coutinho for another year, and Arteta may have to search elsewhere, as he looks to inject some more creativity into his squad.
