Tyrick Mitchell is set to sign a four-year contract with Crystal Palace putting an end to speculation linking him with Premier League rivals Arsenal, as reported by The Sun (14 February, page 65).
After Patrick van Aanholt’s horror show in Saturday’s 3-0 home defeat to Burnley, this will be welcome news to Palace fans.
Van Aanholt is still dusting himself down after being knocked to the floor by Matt ‘the Lancashire Maicon’ Lowton in the build up to Burnley’s stunning third goal.
So don’t be surprised to see Mitchell, who has enjoyed an impressive breakthrough season, return to the starting XI at the Dutchman’s expense during the upcoming trip to bitter rivals Brighton and Hove Albion.
The Standard reports the London-born 21-year-old caught the eye of an Arsenal side scouring the market for Sead Kolasinac’s replacement.
The Gunners’ lack of cover at left-back has been brutally exposed by Kieran Tierney’s injury absence.
But Mitchell, an aggressive, all-action defender who is “super-gifted” with the ball at his feet, won’t be making the short trip from Selhurst Park to the Emirates any time soon.

According to The Sun, Palace’s academy graduate will instead put pen to paper on a new, four-year contract, complete with a substantial pay rise.
Interestingly, Van Aanholt has also been linked with Arsenal and he, like Mitchell, is due to become a free agent in July (Mirror).
However, after his disastrous performance against a rampant Clarets side, Arsenal may be in no rush to make an offer.
