Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez could land a pay rise by joining Aston Villa this summer, the Guardian suggest.
Villa are stepping up their pursuit of Martinez, whose future at Arsenal still looks very insecure.
The Argentine has made no secret of his desire for regular football, and Mikel Arteta is still yet to promise him that the Emirates Stadium.
Martinez is competing with Bernd Leno for a place in Arsenal’s goal, and even though the 28-year-old has barely put a foot wrong since replacing the injured German, he is yet to totally nail down his spot at the club’s number one.
There is a feeling that Leno could still replace him over the long-term and, as a result, Arsenal are struggling to get him to agree to sign a new contract.

Martinez has been offered an extension, but Arsenal are miles apart in their wage offer to him, and to make matters worse Villa are now pushing hard to land him.
Martinez would earn a considerable salary rise by moving to Villa Park, the latest report suggests, and that could make the move appealing.
Martinez clearly has a great affinity towards Arsenal, but Villa are prepared to offer him the chance to be their number one, and if the Gunners receive an offer of around £20 million it seems he could leave, despite his incredible form of late.
