According to The Mail, Chelsea are hesitant to sack Graham Potter right now as their poor form continues.
Apparently, Chelsea don’t want to sack Potter just yet as they still see him as a manager who can bring long-term success to Stamford Bridge.
According to this report, the Blues’ decision is being influenced by the success of Mikel Arteta at Arsenal.
As we all know, Arsenal had ample opportunity to sack Arteta during his first two seasons at the Emirates.
The Gunners were genuinely being spoken about as relegation candidates under the Spaniard at one point, and there were plenty of calls for him to be sacked.
However, the higher-ups at Arsenal decided to give Arteta plenty of time, and their faith in the gaffer has been rewarded as they currently sit at the top of the Premier League.
Understandably, Chelsea want to travel on the same trajectory, and they believe that Potter has what it takes to have an Arteta-esque impact in west London.
Of course, whether or not Potter has what it takes to do this remains to be seen.
There is a big difference between Arteta and Potter’s situations. Arteta was taking over an ageing squad in disarray, while Potter has control of a team that won the Champions League just 18 months ago and has spent over half a billion pounds adding talent this season.
That isn’t to say that Potter won’t eventually get things right, but, at the end of the day, he should be doing much better than he is right now.
Two wins in 15 games, quite simply, isn’t good enough for Chelsea, but, at the same time, as Arteta has shown, these projects can take a bit of time to click.
For now, Chelsea are going to give Potter time, but they may not stay too patient if results don’t pick up soon.
