According to Foot Mercato, Arsenal have made contact with Real Madrid over the signing of Eden Hazard, with Newcastle and Chelsea also interested.

What’s the story?

Well, this would be a major signing for Arsenal.

Foot Mercato believe the Gunners are seriously interested in signing the 116-cap Belgium international, who Real Madrid paid £130m for.

The French news outlet add that Newcastle are still following Hazard closely, having expressed interest in him during the January window.

Chelsea were also said to be maintaining contact with Real Madrid, although their current financial crisis has plunged any deal in doubt.

Hazard has struggled significantly at the Santiago Bernabeu, and Foot Mercato claim he will sit down and discuss his future with the Spanish giants this summer.

The 31-year-old has only scored six goals in 65 appearances for Los Blancos.

So far this season, Hazard has scored once in 22 games.

Arsenal, Newcastle and Chelsea must be careful

In our view, the Premier League trio should be wary of signing Hazard.

The Belgian isn’t the player he once was, and there should be plenty of scepticism over whether he can still deliver the goods in England.

It is important that Arsenal, Newcastle and Chelsea do not entertain this deal purely because of what Hazard has done in the past.

Aside from his woeful numbers for Real Madrid, the former Lille maestro is said to earn £381,000-a-week in the Spanish capital.

It remains to be seen if he’d take a wage cut, but in light of his struggles, even a £200,000-a-week deal would represent a huge risk.

Keep an eye on this saga, as Hazard could soon end up back in the Premier League.
