Arsenal are the fourth club to show interest in Gabriel and are hoping to win the race for the Lille defender by making an offer soon, according to UOL.

It has been reported that Lille will sell Gabriel for an initial transfer fee of €20 million (£18.08 million), with bonuses taking the deal to a total of €30 million (£27.11 million).

The Gunnel are in contact with the 22-year-old defender’s entourage and plan to win the race to the youngster’s signature by making an offer soon, according to the report.

The report has claimed that Everton started talks back in February, while Manchester United and Napoli had already made their moves before Arsenal came into the picture.

Stats

According to WhoScored, Gabriel made 23 starts and one substitute appearance in Ligue 1 for Lille this past season, scoring one goal in the process.

The Brazilian youngster also played six times in the Champions League for the French club in 2019-20, according to WhoScored.

No need at Arsenal?

While Gabriel is a very good and promising young defender, there is an argument to be made that Arsenal do not need him.

The Gunners have quite a few centre-backs already, and head coach Mikel Arteta will have William Saliba at his disposal as well next season, with the 19-year-old coming from Saint-Etienne.
