According to The Sun, Tottenham Hotspur could be offered Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling as Manchester City plot a move for Harry Kane.
This was always going to happen as soon as the final whistle blew on Saturday, with City losing the Champions League final to Chelsea.
Rumours surrounding Kane to City were always going to ramp up after that defeat, especially with City looking a little blunt in attack.
It’s now suggested that City are so desperate to sign Kane that they’ll offer up Jesus and Sterling to Tottenham in a swap deal.
This sounds bizarre enough as it is, but the report goes on to add that Arsenal are actually favourites to sign Sterling.
Sterling worked with Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta at City, but how on earth are Arsenal coming up with the cash for the England international?
They’d need a fee and then to cover his £300,000-a-week wages. Tottenham equally have little chance of matching Sterling’s City deal, and they’d both have to hope that Sterling finally fancies coming back to London after 11 years in the north.
As for Jesus, that’s a little more realistic. He allegedly earns £90,000-a-week, which isn’t out of Tottenham’s price bracket, but whether he’d be willing to leave City is another matter.
Swap deals are hard enough when all parties want a deal to happen, never mind when there are issues like Sterling’s wages, which are surely beyond both Arsenal and Spurs right now.
