According to Football London, Arsenal are keeping a close eye on Konstantinos Mavropanos during his loan spell at VfB Stuttgart.
The 23-year-old was shipped away from the Emirates Stadium over the summer, and he has been enjoying a bit of form in the Bundesliga.
Interestingly, the German side’s manager, Pellegrino Matarazzo, recently heaped praise on the Greece international as a result of his fine form.
Matarazzo is quoted by Football London as saying: “He’s our gladiator! He’s a monster in terms of physique. And when he makes a mistake, he hums around some Greek swear words. I like that. He’s just a tough dog.”
The centre-back has even gained experience playing at right-back this season, according to Football London.
In our view, this could interest Mikel Arteta.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles wants to play in midfield, and Cedric has had to play at left-back recently, leaving Hector Bellerin as the only right-back option.
Football London say that the Gunners are monitoring his progress closely, and Mavropanos will hope to be given a chance when he gets back to north London.
In our view, there’s no way that the Arsene Wenger signing should be given a chance before William Saliba.
Arsenal invested a lot in the Frenchman, £27 million to be exact, and Arteta must ensure he gets the 19-year-old involved in first-team proceedings next season.
If Mavropanos gets a chance first, surely Saliba will be left scratching his head.
