Arsenal are said to be interested in signing Real Madrid playmaker Marco Asensio by El Nacional.
Arsenal interest mounts
Madrid are apparently considering offloading the Spaniard in the January transfer window, with Arsenal now taking a look at the potential of signing him.
The Gunners do have good contacts at Madrid, having landed Martin Odegaard from them in the summer.
There are question marks over whether Asensio would be an ideal fit for this Arsenal side, though.
Mikel Arteta already has Odegaard and Emile Smith Rowe at his disposal, so Asensio would immediately face a fit for a spot in the team.
‘World-class’ talent

The creative midfielder, who has previously been described as ‘world class’ by Vincente Del Bosque (Marca), has now been linked with Arsenal for some time though, which suggests the North London club’s interest in him is strong.
Cadena Sar actually suggested that Arsenal put in a £34 million bid for Asensio in the summer, which was turned down at that point.
Madrid’s stance seem to have softened since though, and Arsenal still appear to be taking a keen interest.
There is some logic to their interest too.
Asensio is undoubtedly a quality player, and the added competition for places may end up driving standards up at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal are showing signs of really clicking into gear under Arteta, and if they can add further quality in the new year, then a push for the top four doesn’t look totally out of the equation.
