According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal are in the race to sign Peterborough United talent Ricky-Jade Jones this summer.
It’s claimed that Jones has been called ‘the next Jamie Vardy’ thanks to his blistering pace. His 100m sprint time of 10.9 seconds explains why.
Interest from Premier League clubs is therefore no great surprise. This report states that Liverpool and Manchester United are keen on Jones, who models his game on Marcus Rashford.
However, Arsenal are thought to be interested too. The Gunners even made contact about his availability earlier this year, according to Posh director of football Barry Fry.
17-year-old Jones has been given 16 first-team games this season, and hit four goals. He seems destined to play at a high level, but Peterborough don’t sell cheaply.
The likes of Dwight Gayle, Britt Assombalonga and Jack Marriott are just some of the attackers Peterborough have sold on for big money, and Jones will be no different.

The Sun reported earlier this season that Tottenham made a £1.75million move for Jones despite planning to sack Mauricio Pochettino. Daniel Levy was told to come back with a much bigger offer, with Peterborough wanting around £10million.
That was a number of months ago; Jones has continued his progression, but the global pandemic will hit transfer fees this summer.
Arsenal may fancy their chances of adding Jones for less than £10million, but they will certainly face a battle to secure his signature when the transfer market opens.
