CalcioMercato report that Arsenal have joined Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund in tabling an offer to sign Lille striker Jonathan David. Earlier reports claim a fee of £58.5million might be required to land the Canadian.
New York-born David, 22, has been on fire for Lille this season. Having fired the French outfit to the Ligue 1 title last season, he has scored 16 goals in his 34 league and cup appearances this term. That is, despite his tender age.
The 27-time Canada international has been strongly linked with a move to Arsenal of late – and now CM report that Arsenal are putting that interest into practice. An offer has been tabled for David, ahead of the summer.
Arsenal are not alone, though. Indeed, Barcelona and Dortmund are also said to have made offers. Dortmund are likely to want to bring in cover for Erling Haaland – who seems as though he will be leaving the German club.
Barcelona have brought in Ferran Torres and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang while also boasting Memphis Depay – but did lose Sergio Aguero earlier this season. The race is hotting up for the eye-catching Lille star.
Arsenal bid for David: Can Gunners win race for Lille superstar?
Of the three clubs, Arsenal is certainly an attractive proposition. But with Dortmund sitting comfortably in second place, they will qualify for the Champions League. David has three goals in this season’s tournament.
So, Dortmund is probably the most-attractive option – with Barcelona boasting plenty of competition. At the Nou Camp, he might not be first choice. Arsenal need Champions League football to stand a chance.
