Arsenal are reportedly lining up a summer swoop for the Atletico Madrid ace.
A report emanating from Spain today claims that the Gunners have identified Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak as their primary summer transfer target, according to Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo.
Arsenal’s current number one stopper Petr Cech has experienced a turbulent campaign, with a number of high-profile errors proving to be costly for his team.
Mundo Deportivo claim that Arsene Wenger sees the Slovenia international as the ideal replacement for the 35-year-old, as the Frenchman continues his squad overhaul at the Emirates.
There is one problem for the north London outfit, though.
With Arsenal’s well-documented goalkeeping problems, would £88.7 million for Oblak be money well spent?
At just 25, Oblak has arguably a good decade of his best years ahead of him, and he must be considered as one of the best five goalkeepers in the world, alongside the likes of David de Gea, Manuel Neuer and Thibaut Courtois.
Standing at 6ft 3in tall, he is an imposing physical specimen, and is incredibly athletic. He commands his area with authority and is a wonderful shot-stopper.
These are exciting times for Arsenal fans, with the recent arrivals of Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, but if they fail to improve their rearguard, they will most likely continue to disappoint.
Signing Oblak would be a huge step in the right direction for the Gunners, however, and could be the start of a return to the glory days for the north London giants.
