According to Goal.com, Arsenal expect to complete a move for Runar Alex Runarsson this afternoon.

It has been reported that the Iceland international goalkeeper completed his medical in France on Thursday and travelled to England on Friday.

The 25-year-old will join Arsenal from Dijon for £1 million, and the Gunners are hoping to announce the transfer this afternoon, according to the report.

The report has added that the goalkeeper will then go into the Arsenal squad for their Carabao Cup tie against Leicester City on Wednesday.

Replacing Emiliano Martinez

Runarsson will be a replacement for Emiliano Martinez at Arsenal, with the Argentine goalkeeper having joined Aston Villa earlier this month.

Bernd Leno is the first-choice goalkeeper at the Gunners, and that is not going to change, but the North London club needed to sign a replacement for Martinez.

Runarsson has been a back-up goalkeeper at Dijon, and it will be interesting to see how he does if he is called into action, just like Martinez was in the final weeks of last season when Leno got injured.

Arsenal have been quite busy in the summer transfer window, signing Willian on a free transfer and Gabriel from Lille, while Pablo Mari and Cedric have also made their loan deals permanent.
