Arsenal have reportedly said no to a deal involving Liverpool star Raheem Sterling.
Phil Brown, a Spanish football expert, told Extra Time for talkSPORT that Arsenal have already been offered the opportunity to sign Raheem Sterling from Liverpool.
Brown suggested that Arsenal had been offered a deal, which would see Theo Walcott heading in the other direction, but it’s a deal that the Gunners quickly turned their back on.
“He’s definitely not going to Spain – He was offered to Arsenal, with Walcott going the other way, but they said no,” he said.
It’s become clear that Sterling’s long term future doesn’t lay at Liverpool, which puts the Merseyside club in a difficult position.
If they sell him now, they’ll get the best possible price, but Arsene Wenger seems content with what Walcott already offers to Arsenal.
They both play in similar positions out wide and both have the ability to play through the middle of the attack.
Alexis Sanchez is another example of a similar player, who has had a very positive impact in his first season at the club.
Walcott showed with his hat-trick against West Brom and his performance in the FA Cup final against Aston Villa that he’s well suited to the current Arsenal side and system.
Arsenal already have plenty of pace and creative boxes ticked and have no real need for a player of Sterling’s type to come into the squad, so can’t really be blamed for overlooking the chance to sign the Liverpool man.
