It has been reported that Arsenal have held talks with Dijon over the transfer of the Iceland international goalkeeper.
The Gunners are reportedly looking at the 25-year-old as a potential replacement for Emiliano Martinez, who is on his way to Aston Villa.
Arsenal are interested in Brentford custodian David Raya – described as “a very good goalkeeper” by Bees head coach Thomas Frank on the club’s official website in July 2019 – but he will cost £10 million, while Runarsson would come at the bargain price of £1.5 million, according to the report.
Good signing for Arsenal?
Bernd Leno is the first-choice goalkeeper at Arsenal, and that is not going to change anytime soon.
Martinez proved in the final weeks of last season that he is a very good back-up, and the Gunners need to replace the Argentine with a player of similar quality.
Runarsson has done well for Dijon over the past two seasons, and the 25-year-old also has five caps for the Iceland national football team.
Arsenal need not spend a lot of money on a second-choice goalkeeper, and bringing in Runarsson for £1.5 million would be very sensible.
