The Athletic reported on Tuesday that Arsenal have made a bid for Raphinha, and on Wednesday morning it emerged that the bid was, as expected, rejected.

Arsenal apparently offered way below Leeds’ asking price for the Brazilian, and while the Gunners’ first bid failed, the north London outfit are reportedly determined to get a deal done.

Indeed, The Athletic state that Arsenal are keen to sign the winger this summer, and as we saw last year, just because the Gunners’ first bid has been rejected doesn’t mean their pursuit is over.

Last summer Arsenal submitted countless bids for Ben White before getting a £50m deal over the line, and we could be seeing a similar story unfolding with Raphinha.

It remains unreported just how much Arsenal bid for the Leeds star, but with the Whites reportedly looking for north of £55m for the attacker, it’s fair to say that Arsenal will need to cough up some serious cash for the Premier League ace.

Raphinha certainly has the potential to be a great signing for Arsenal. After all, he scored 11 league goals last season, but getting him out of Leeds will be easier said than done.

With Barcelona, Chelsea and Tottenham also circling, Arsenal need to hurry up and get a second, higher, bid submitted if they’re serious about landing the South American star.

Keep an eye out for any further updates on the ‘incredible’ Leeds ace.
