Arsenal are said to have doubts over the potential signing of Odsonne Edouard from Celtic by the Athletic.

Arsenal have been tracking Edouard for some time, but look likely to be beaten to the punch by Leicster City this summer, who have agreed a £15 million deal in principle (The Sun).

That has caused some frustration among Arsenal fans, who have also seen the club miss out on Emiliano Buendia in recent times.

However, the Athletic suggest that Mikel Arteta’s side actually aren’t as keen on Edouard as previously suggested.

Indeed, while they admire his talents, there are said to be doubts over whether the Celtic striker works hard enough or has the physical capabilities to compete in the Premier League.

Arsenal feel that Edouard would need to make big improvements in both areas if he was to make a splash in England, although Leicester appear to have fewer concerns.

Justifiable concerns?

Edouard’s supposed lack of work rate certainly hasn’t held him back at Celtic, where he has been extremely prolific over the last two seasons.

He may play with a languid style, but he has been hugely effective in front of goal in Scotland.

He would, however, be making a step up in standard if he was to join Arsenal or Leicester this summer.

Kieran Tierney has already proven that players from Scotland can go on to have an impact, though, as he is playing a key role for Mikel Arteta’s side already.

And Arsenal may be hoping that Edouard doesn’t go on and have too much success at Leicester, otherwise they may be left to rue not pushing to sign him when they had a chance.
