Arsenal’s Francis Coquelin in action with Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson
The Mail report that Arsenal’s medical team fear Coquelin has injured his medial knee ligaments for the second season in succession.
The injury restricted Coquelin to only 21 Premier League starts last season out of a possible 38.
This season the Frenchman had started five games plus the Champions League draw away to Paris Saint-Germain.
Losing him would be a blow the Gunners could do without, even though they have cover in the squad.
Arsenal’s Mohamed Elneny in action
Mohamed Elneny could come in to partner Granit Xhaka in the middle, while Aaron Ramsey is expected back form injury after the international break.
If injuries mounted up then the Gunners could rue their decision to allow Jack Wilshere to leave on loan, but for now it appears they have the numbers to cover Coquelin’s absence, even if it is far from ideal.
