Arsenal are reportedly plotting to make a second bid for Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney this summer.
According to a report from The Sunday People (23/6; page 60), Arsenal are planning to make a bid of around £19 million for Kieran Tierney after Celtic rejected the Gunners’ £15 million offer for the left-back.
Tierney’s future looks to be up in the air this summer, with Unai Emery looking to bring the Hoops hero to the Emirates ahead of his second campaign with the North London side.
The Sunday People (23/6; page 60) reports that Celtic have already knocked back an eight-figure offer for the 22-year-old, who has already made over 100 Scottish Premiership appearances for the Bhoys.
The report notes that Neil Lennon wants at least £25 million for Tierney, but Arsenal plan to make a second offer worth £19 million with the Hoops open to doing business with the Premier League giants.
Could Celtic accept £19 million?
Although £19 million should give Lennon’s transfer kitty a significant boost, it is still likely to be an unpopular move if Celtic do cash in on Tierney, who clearly has a frightening amount of potential.
Replacing Tierney is going to be an incredibly difficult challenge, especially as he is surely an obvious contender to replace Scott Brown as captain when the midfielder calls time on his career in the coming years.
Of course, if Tierney wishes to go then Celtic probably have to take Arsenal’s offer more seriously. But it is tough to imagine the full-back making any attempt to push through a move away, so the Hoops would be right to hold out for as much as possible and be prepared to walk away from talks if necessary.
