Speculation is gathering regarding Arsenal defender Cedric Soares.
On Saturday, it was reported by The Daily Mail that Atletico Madrid were keen on the versatile Arsenal player, who was signed by Edu for £1 million 18 months ago, after originally joining on loan.
That report claimed that the Gunners were reluctant to offload the Portugal international.
However, another transfer story from a different publication has intimated that the North Londoners may well agree to letting the former Southampton star depart.
According to talkSPORT, Arsenal may be open to allowing the player to join Atletico.
Logical?
Absolutely.
Cedric has impressed Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta with his attitude and professionalism, but only 215 minutes of Premier League football this season illustrates that the Portuguese right-back is nowhere near to playing regularly.
Takehiro Tomiyasu won’t be shifted but, with Cedric being capable of playing left-back too, Kieran Tierney and Nuno Tavares have that position sewn up effectively.
Arteta is well aware of his attacking prowess, having said this in 2020: “He’s a different quality in the full-back area than what we have. He’s a gifted, technical player and is probably the best we have in the final third to make the right decision and attack the box as well.”
However, he appears to be wasting valuable years of his peak and honestly, the 30-year-old would probably jump at the chance to join the Liga champions.
