According to La Razón, Arsenal could end up signing Guido Rodríguez for a lot less than Real Betis have set his release clause at.
What’s the story?
Well, the Spanish news outlet mention how Real Betis could end up signing Edu Expósito after Eibar were relegated from La Liga.
La Razón claim that this is more likely to happen if Real Betis raise some cash from the sale of Rodríguez, who is a target for Arsenal.
It is said that Arsenal are following the 27-year-old closely, and intend to enter negotiations with the Spanish side over his signature.
La Razón write that the 10-cap Argentina international has a release clause worth €80 million (£69 million) in his contract, which Arsenal want to discuss.
Interestingly, it is said that Real Betis would actually be willing to negotiate a sum lower than £69 million. Much lower.
In fact, they would actually view an offer of just €30 million (£26 million) with ‘good eyes’ – as La Razón put it.
That would see Arsenal land a £40 million discount on the South American.
Arsenal should steer clear of Rodríguez
While Rodríguez – who has been described as a defensive monster – is a fine player, he isn’t what Arsenal should be focusing on.
Yes, with Granit Xhaka heading for Roma, and Dani Ceballos back at Real Madrid, Mikel Arteta does need some new midfielders.
However, the priority signing should be Yves Bissouma, who is a target for the Gunners and actually wants to join the north Londoners.
Bissouma has Premier League experience and is proven, whereas Rodríguez could arrive for a big sum and flop.
Before any other midfielders are signed, Bissouma must be brought to the Emirates Stadium, in our view.
