Marseille are ready to pay £25 million for Arsenal central defender William Saliba, according to a report from the Sunday Mirror (26/6; page 77).

The report has claimed that Marseille are planning to bid £25 million for Arsenal centre-back Saliba, who himself is open to returning to the Ligue 1 club.

The 21-year-old France international central defender spent last season on loan at Marseille from Arsenal and helped them finish in the UEFA Champions League places in the Ligue 1 table.

What should Arsenal’s William Saliba do about Marseille?

In our view, Arsenal central defender William Saliba should not rush into making a decision over his future amid interest from Marseille.

Now, of course, we know that at the Emirates Stadium, it will be tough for Saliba – described as “quick and a good passer of the ball” by former Arsenal midfielder Samir Nasri on Marseille’s official YouTube in 2021 – to play regularly.

Ben White and Gabriel are the two main centre-backs under Arteta, and there is also speculation that Arsenal are keen on Lisandro Martinez of Ajax.

And there is also the small matter of the 2022 World Cup finals in Qatar later this year.

So, Saliba will surely want to play regularly in the coming months.

In our view, Saliba should wait until pre-season training with Arsenal and then judge if he stands a stand of playing regularly for the North London club.
