According to The Telegraph, Arsenal may attempt to keep defender David Luiz – but on reduced terms as the club attempt to save money.
The Gunners signed Luiz last summer, landing him from Chelsea on deadline day back in August. At the time, the deal was announced as being a two-year contract.
However, Sky Sports claimed that the deal was actually a 12-month contract with the option of a second year. They suggested that no talks were planned any time soon.
That same report stated that Arteta is ‘desperate’ to have Luiz in his side next season, with technical director Edu taking a similar stance – but much will depend on the money involved.
Now, it’s stated that Arsenal are considering making an offer to Luiz. He currently earns £120,000-a-week, and the Gunners don’t want to renew those terms.
Instead, Arsenal want to offer Luiz a lower salary with incentives. Whether the Brazilian would be keen on accepting such terms remains to be seen.
The 33-year-old has been settled in London for four years now, but with Benfica keen according to The Mirror, he could well leave Arsenal.
