According to the Evening Standard, Arsenal are considering a move for Southampton left-back Ryan Bertrand.

The Gunners are searching for a left-back to provide competition for Kieran Tierney, and are monitoring the England international’s situation.

Bertrand only has six months left on his contract at St Mary’s, and has held protracted talks with the Saints over fresh terms.

The Evening Standard say that the ex-Chelsea man is happy at Southampton, but will find Arsenal hard to turn down if a new contract isn’t agreed.

Southampton are said to be against selling the 31-year-old this month.

Furthermore, the defender is happy to wait until the end of the season to consider his options.

If Arsenal do sign Bertrand, they would be getting a player full of Premier League experience.

The man who cost Southampton £10 million has amassed 246 Premier League appearances, having spent time with Chelsea and Aston Villa before moving to St Mary’s.

After seeing Sead Kolasinac depart this month, Mikel Arteta definitely needs a new left-back to deputise for Tierney.

Given Bertrand’s quality, experience and contract situation, he could be the ideal target to solve the issue.
