Arsenal are hoping that they can get money off Martin Odegaard, if they are patient in the race to sign him, the Sun say.

Real Madrid have apparently told Arsenal that they want over £50 million for the playmaker, who has recently been described as ‘incredible’ by ESPN pundit Don Hutchison.

Arsenal, however, feel that they can afford to play the long-game in negotiations with Los Blancos.

The Gunners believe that Madrid are desperate to raise funds, as they look to sign a superstar this summer.

And they are hoping that if Odegaard hasn’t been sold quickly, then Madrid may reduce their demands.

A clever plan

That would suit Arsenal, who are not believed to have a huge amount to spend this summer.

Arsenal need to limit their expenditure, with most of their funds set to come from sales.

At £50 million Odegaard would rather be a lavish purchase, especially as he hasn’t set the Premier League on fire since joining.

Odegaard has shown real signs of promise and has quickly earned the trust of Arteta.

But for £50 million, Arsenal may want a slightly more tangible return on their investment in terms of goals and assists.

If Edu’s apparent plan does work, and Madrid do reduce their demands, then he suddenly becomes a lot more appealing though.

But any Arsenal fans hoping for a quick signing may be disappointed, as it seems that negotiations could rumble on for some time yet.
