According to Di Marzio, Arsenal are finally closing a transfer deal that would see Ben White become a Gunner.
The London outfit have been linked with White for a long time now, and it seems as though they’re finally going to get this one over the line.
Indeed, the report states that Mikel Arteta’s side are just one step away from signing the Brighton defender.
The centre-back spot is certainly an area that the Gunners need to bolster, and White would certainly strengthen their squad. After all, he’s a player who has been described as ‘excellent’ in the past by Marcelo Bielsa.
Of course, a player of that quality doesn’t come cheaply. The defender is reportedly set to join in a deal worth £50m, and that would make him the most expensive defensive signing in Arsenal’s history.
As any Arsenal fan of a certain generation will tell you, success is often built from the back and if White can bring back the defensive resilience the London club were famous for in the late 1990s, then he will be worth every penny of the £50m they may end up spending on him.
Di Marzio is usually spot on with this type of thing in his reporting, so it may not be long before Arsenal are announcing White as their newest signing.
