It looks like Arsenal might be closing in on a deal to sign Joelson Fernandes.
The 17-year-old attacker has been heavily linked with a move to North London in recent weeks.
Record in Portugal reported at the end of June that Joelson would be signing a new contract with Sporting Lisbon.
But that hasn’t happened yet and A Bola claim that Arsenal held talks as recently as yesterday about signing the youngster who’s been compared to Cristiano Ronaldo.
The report adds that the Gunners are willing to pay his £41 million release clause and that they could ‘close’ the deal at ‘any time’.
This will no doubt excite Arsenal fans – for two reasons.
Firstly, Joelson is clearly a major talent and Mikel Arteta already has a number of them, so adding more to the squad can only be exciting.
Secondly, Arsenal wouldn’t be spending £41 million on a teenage starlet unless they had a lot more money available, and the implication of spending so much on an unproven player certainly suggests that money isn’t as tight at the Emirates Stadium as we’ve been led to believe.
